Communities across the country and around the world recognize the need to prepare their citizens to respond to the injured until EMS can arrive on the scene. Whether from natural or manmade disasters, active shooter events, or other incidents at which serious injuries or illnesses occur, increasing the awareness and preparedness of the general public on what to do until EMS can respond is recognized as a valuable aspect of community resilience and is encouraged and promoted by government agencies at the local, state, national, and international levels.
